IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR THE WORKSHOP? By the time the workshop arrives your local trainer should have covered several topics related to your CISV experience with you. If you have not received training, please contact your local chapter leadership trainer or chapter chair as soon as possible. Start making a list of questions you want answered. The workshops are very busy, but there is always some time available for informal discussions and a chance to ask experienced leaders questions. Past participants have found this to be very valuable. WHAT TO BRING? Make sure you pack for the weather as it can be very unpredictable. You should bring: WHAT TO EXPECT? Due to the fact that we have a very limited time together, the training workshops are intensively packed with material and activities. The day gets started by 8am and activities run until 10pm. Yes, there are mealtimes and breaks, but you can expect to feel a bit like the pace of the weekend is “go, go, go!” In order to avoid getting tired and overwhelmed, it’s important to arrive fully rested and ready to take part in a fun and information packed weekend. Also, one aspect of the weekend is to recreate a CISV camp-like atmosphere. As such, we expect participants to stay on-site throughout the weekend and to ensure that all formal and informal activities are fully inclusive. Check out the WORKSHOP SHCHEDULE HOW DO I GET TO THE CAMPSITE? Located on this website are the directions for each of the three campsites used for our regional workshops. Please make sure you check this webpage for the proper directions to your workshop (Camp Alexandra, Camp Shiktehawk, and Steven’s Children’s Camp). It is the responsibility of each participant to arrange their transportation to the workshop. However, we strongly encourage that each chapter coordinate communal transportation/ carpooling to the site in order to save money and cut back on emissions. Often the best way to coordinate your travel with other participants from your chapter is to contact your chapter’s local leadership trainer. See below for details of travel costs. ***PLEASE BE ON TIME!!!*** Because many CISV members are traveling from different cities and places to attend training, please be courteous to those members from other chapters that arrive Friday night on time ready to participate in a fun weekend of training. ENSURE THAT YOU ARE AT THE WORKSHOP SITE BY 8:00 PM ON FRIDAY AT THE LATEST. ARRANGE YOUR TRAVEL PLANS ACCORDINGLY. For all people required to attend training (as listed above in the “WHO ATTENDS?” section), travel expenses (minus $100)* are covered by the National Leadership Training Fund. Registration fees are also covered, with the exception of staff groups for Canadian camps, whose registration fees are paid for by the host chapter. * The chapter covers the first $100. Anyone else is welcome to attend national training, space permitting, at their own expense. We strongly encourage Canadians traveling as international staff to attend the nearest staff training session (though note that not every workshop is set up to train staff). The registration fee for the 2010 workshops is $80 per participant. A SPECIAL NOTE ON STAFF AND IYM LEADER TRAINING in 2010 We would like to centralize staff training this year: Village Staff training will be held at the Western workshop only, (so Ottawa/Montreal and Calgary should send their village staff teams there). Summer Camp staff training will be held at the Central workshop only, (so Saskatoon and Toronto should send their staff teams there). IYM delegation leaders training will be held at the Central workshop only (so all chapters sending IYM delegations should send their leaders there). Please ensure that you apply to the correct workshop. Thank you! We look forward to a fun and informative training weekend! Yours in CISV, Ryan Katz-Rosene, National Leadership Development Committee, CISV Canada If you have questions please e-mail Ryan Katz-Rosene at leadertraining [at] ca [dot] cisv [dot] org
